Tips For Skiing well at Nationals

Average weather in Helena, MT on August 25 is a high of 83 degrees Fahrenheit and an average low of 50.6 degrees Fahrenheit.   Extreme temperatures show an all-time high of 97 degrees and an all-time low of 28 degrees. 

We are going with the averages. So be sure to pack some warmer clothes for the early mornings and evenings. It can be chilly.  

The average amount of daylight in August is 13.41 hours. With sunrise at 6:39 am and sunset at 8:20 PM.  Compare that to June 21st in Helena with 15.5 hours of daylight. So slightly shorter days.  So, look for long beautiful days and cool (who needs AC?) nights. 

Altitude and its impact in Helena, MT
The altitude at the ski site is about 4,000 feet above sea level.  The elevation does raise a performance issue for boats. Skiers will get 45, but don’t expect much more. So, practice at speeds no faster than 45 mph.
Remember, generally speaking, an engine loses 3-4 percent of is rated horsepower for every 1,000 feet of altitude gained. (Jiffylubesocal.com).  So, whatever the boat gets at sea level the reduction will be a minimum of 12% in performance.   We will be using 2 Big Block Sangers to help with this challenge.
